Where To Watch The Sunset With Your Dog in NYC

WATCHING THE SUNSET

In New York City with Your Dog

Just because summer is over, there are still lots of warm(is) days (and nights ahead) and plenty of opportunities to see the sunset. Even though the time is getting earlier and earlier that the sun is setting, there’s always time to take advantage of seeing the beautiful scene.

There is nothing better than an end of day stroll with your furry best friend. Especially through the streets of New York City.

When you think of New York City, the first thing you think of is probably not charming, beautiful sunsets. Instead, what comes to mind is something along the lines of fabulous pizza, Coney Island Amusement Park, the Empire State Building and Yankee Stadium. However, once you see the long shadows cast by the Midtown skyscrapers and the evening sky when it’s set on maximum saturation, you’ll be hooked on NYC sunsets (and sunrises, too!).

Give your eyes a break from your computer screen and head off to watch the sunset in your favorite spot. We know you have one. But just in case you don’t, your local PRIDE+GROOM team is here to share a few of ours.

THE WEST SIDE HIGHWAY, MANHATTAN
All along the Park's four miles, you'll find wide, west-facing skies over the Hudson River, which reflects every spectacular sunset hue. The particular area along the Hudson River and West Side Highway in the far west Greenwich Village is now spectacular and a lovely place to watch the sun set. Truly, there is no bad spot to watch the sunset here. However, if you want to see Lady Liberty, we suggest heading near Pier 46, 45 or 25.

CONEY ISLAND
Corbin Pl. to W. 37 St., Boardwalk Brooklyn

Iconic Coney Island is one of the most popular family attractions in New York, and there are so many places to watch sunsets there. Whether you’re lolling on the beach, leisurely walking on the boardwalk or riding on the amusement park’s enormous Wonder Wheel, the picturesque view of the skies on fire at Coney Island is truly something to behold.

Sorry you can't ride the iconic ferris wheel with your 4 legged friend but you CAN take a magical photo of it. Stroll the boardwalk or beach for the best view.

ASTORIA PARK, QUEENS
19 St. between Astoria Park S. and Ditmars Blvd. Queens

Located on the western shore of Queens, Astoria Park extends from the Hellgate Bridge to the Triborough Bridge. The park offers shoreline sights, sounds and plenty of fun activities to help you pass the time while you wait on a brilliant sunset to light up the NYC horizon. Astoria Park also offers panoramic views of midtown Manhattan, the largest municipal pool in the City and a great walking path along the East River.

DOMINO PARK, BROOKLYN
15 River St, Brooklyn

Brooklyn's Domino Park has some of the most gorgeous waterfront views, especially during sunset!  Domino Park is a welcome addition to the  Brooklyn waterfront. One of the best things about watching the sunset from Brooklyn is that you get the entire Manhattan skyline directly in the background. Grab a blanket and some food  from a local restaurant or food truck. You will not regret it.

THE BATTERY, MANHATTAN
Battery Pl, State St and Whitehall St Manhattan

New York’s birthplace park boasts perennial gardens, urban farms, harbor views and the lovely Sea Glass Carousel. The park is also the go-to location for park goers who visit it to observe brilliant sunsets. There are plenty of benches to sit down on while watching the sky change colors over the harbor.

Leashed pets are permitted on hard surfaces throughout Battery Park City, except those designated as public art. (Public art in Battery Park City includes the Irish Hunger Memorial and South Cove.)

BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK, BROOKLYN
334 Furman St Brooklyn

Brooklyn Bridge Park is a perfect place to throw a picnic blanket as it offers premium views of the impressive Brooklyn Bridge, Jane’s Carousel and downtown New York skyline. Before twilight, you can watch as the sun slowly sinks over and behind skyscrapers, leaving a glistening trail across the waters as it does. If you didn’t pack a picnic dinner – no worries – Grimaldi’s Pizzeria is in the neighborhood, and you can stop by for world-class pizza and beer.

The only thing better than the above is that you get to throw in the Brooklyn Bridge. #NuffSaid.

HAMILTON PARK, JERSEY CITY
McWilliams Pl 8th St, Jersey City, NJ 07302

Hamilton Park is a lovely place to watch sunsets just outside of New York City. Located in Weehawken, NJ, the park offers stunning views of the Manhattan skyline you can see from across the Hudson River. The park is named after American statesman Alexander Hamilton who was shot and killed there July 11, 1804 during a duel with Vice President Aaron Burr.

Hamilton Park is made just for dogs to socialize and have a good time while their human companions wish they could join in. There are designated areas for the dogs to be off the leash. And the views it offers of Manhattan are absolutely breathtaking.

HUNTER’S POINT, LONG ISLAND CITY
Center Blvd. bet. 50 Ave. and 2 St. Queens

Hunter’s Point in South Park abounds with entertainment options, including a waterside promenade, a bikeway, and, of course, a 30-something foot tall-cantilevered structure where you can marvel at beautiful waterfront sunsets. This spot is ideal for family picnics, a brief walk with your dog or a romantic Valentine’s Day rendezvous.

VALENTINO PIER, BROOKLYN
Ferris St &, Coffey St, Brooklyn

Valentino Pier is so high on our list because it’s the closest you can get to watching the sun go down over the ocean. With the Statue of Liberty facing right towards you as the sun sets, you’ll probably never get a better picture. It’s located on Ferris Street between Coffey Street and Van Dyke Street in the neighborhood of Red Hook, Brooklyn.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN
41 St., 44 St., bet. 5 Ave. and 7 Ave. Brooklyn

With that kind of name, it has to feature magical sunsets, right? Sunset Park in Brooklyn doesn’t disappoint, and the park’s picturesque hill offers impressive sunset vistas setting behind Manhattan skyscrapers. The park also rewards you with views of the Statue of Liberty, Staten Island and park greenery.

Is there a more picturesque thing than watching the sun fall over the gorgeous NYC skyline and having your doggo join you for the adventure? Although the iconic Manhattanhenge only happens a few times per year, there’s always breathtaking spots to catch the sun dip below the iconic skyscrapers of New York City. Bask in the warm, golden glow, and let the magical spectacle unfold before your eyes. Please share your own favorite spots and tag us @pridegroomnyc on instagram anytime!

WHO IS PRIDE+GROOM?

PRIDE+GROOM was born because 4 New York City dog lovers wanted the same level of grooming products for their dogs that they themselves enjoyed. They looked (hard) but nothing was up to snuff. Or sniff. Like so many, we love our families and take pride in our homes, and we consider our pets to be integral parts of those entities. That said, we could not find an effective way to coif them that was on par with the way we tended to our children, our homes, or ourselves. These beloved pets are allowed on the furniture and in our beds, and yet even when fresh from the groomer, we knew they did not smell or feel as good as they could.

With the development of our coat-specific shampoos, conditioner and deodorizing spray, we think we found just the way to say thanks for being the best and the sweetest MVP of the house.

PRIDE+GROOM is the first dog grooming brand launched under a beauty platform, with formulas made in a clean beauty and scent lab. We know beauty is not only skin deep. We did a ton of research to create the entire line. Each product is formulated with its own unique blend of essential oils sourced from around the world.
