Interview with Carol Bryant

Meet long time pet industry professional Carol Bryant. As a seasoned pet writer and industry expert, she creates successful written and digital solutions for pet, veterinary/animal health, and lifestyle brands. Using bespoke copywriting and content strategy, she develops memorable copy that resonates with the target audience of her clients, drives conversions, and increases revenue.

In dog-speak that’s come, sit, and stay.

Tell Us a Little Bit About Yourself

I’m a dog mom, copywriter, content marketer, pet industry pro, dog blogger, speaker, and Cocker Spaniel lover. I call northeastern Pennsylvania home in a small town near Scranton, home of “The Office” television show.

And What You Do in the Pet Industry?

Carol Bryant Contribution in the Pet Industry

A “dog lover of the highest order” is how Gayle King introduced me when I appeared on Oprah Radio’s Gayle King Show to dish dogs with my cocker spaniel. As the founder of Smart Dog Copy, Fidose of Reality, and Wigglebutt Warriors, I definitely call the pet industry ‘home'. Creating well-trained words that work and convert is what I live for (that and Cocker Spaniels.)

After a series of unfortunate events – losing my dog within 24 hours to hemangiosarcoma, my spouse facing a medical crisis, and the pandemic – I launched Smart Dog Copy. Here’s my official press release: Pet Industry Pro Expands Full-Service Woman-Owned Agency

As a seasoned pet writer and industry expert, I create successful written and digital solutions for pet, veterinary/animal health, and lifestyle brands,” she says. “If you Google ‘Carol Bryant dogs,’ you’ll see some of my digital pawprints.

Leveraging my experience in pet PR and Marketing for the last 15 years has been instrumental in driving the growth of my clients in the pet industry, animal health, and lifestyle sectors.

As an accomplished pet influencer and brand ambassador, I created one of the top-ranking pet blogs, FidoseofReality.com, and am the Immediate Past President of the Dog Writers Association of America.

Tell Us Some Facts About You

Facts About Carol Bryant
  • I own the trademark to “My Heart Beats Dog” and wear it proudly as a permanent tattoo on my left bicep.
  • When the Worst Cooks in America show sent out a casting call, I was selected as a finalist and turned them down. (I couldn’t leave my dog.)
  • Cocker Spaniels own my heart and soul. My second Cocker, Dexter, rode shotgun cross-country several times to attend pet blogging conferences I helped facilitate.
  • My hobbies include pet-friendly road trips, listening to Elvis music, dancing (often with my dog), doing impressions, and anything related to Christmas.
  • I’ve worked successfully remotely since 2001 and thrive that way.
  • I have six permanent tattoos – four of which are dog related.

Tell Us How PRIDE+GROOM and Frothing Changed the Way You Bathe Your Dogs

I am often asked how to make dog fur soft without running to the groomer for high-end shampoos and costly treatments. Over my 30+ years of being a Cocker Spaniel mama, I've learned many coat softness tips, but none are as amazing as frothing.

I’ve turned many Cocker Spaniel moms and dads to the frothing method with PRIDE+GROOM dog shampoo and products. They, too, are hooked.

PRIDE+GROOM products are among my favorites, and I recommend them to other pet parents. The scent is heavenly, but the products themselves are game changers. Everyone says they have the ‘best product,’ but I can attest that PRIDE+GROOM is the real deal!

The combination of essential oils, sustainable ingredients, and the way it gets to my dog’s skin and through his coat is second to none. I get weak in the knees, and the product ingredients are safe for pets.

Why Cocker Spaniels?

When I am not copywriting or working on content marketing with my awesome clients, I spend time with and help Cocker Spaniels.

My heart beats dog®, and truth be told, it thumps with extra beats in a canine rhythm for American Cocker Spaniels. As a 30+-year veteran of the Cocker Spaniel world, I am often asked about this stunning breed.

What I like about your articles is how they help me ask my veterinarian questions,” says Naomi Lukaszewski, foster mom to 140 Cocker Spaniels. “You are the Google of Cocker Spaniels.

Cockers are clingy, funny, smart, and true foodies. They aren’t fond of being alone or cheap to care for. Cockers wrap themselves around my heart and make me a better person. I love all dogs, but my heart sings for Cocker Spaniels.

Why the Pet Industry?

Why Carol Bryant Chosed the Pet Industry

I am a pet product and pet services geek who loves working with brands that care about the health and well-being of pets. Networking and connecting with pet people doing amazing things and disrupting the pet industry is one of my joys. We always hear about the pet industry's impressive numbers. According to APPA, pet industry revenue reached $147 billion in 2023. Megabucks, right?

I always find shaker-uppers intriguing. They think outside the box and are not just setting the bar but reframing and elevating it. These are people who are shaking things up and setting a new norm. My new normal is aligning with them, watching their visions grow, and applying similar philosophies to my life. As Elvis said in his 1968 special, “It’s been a long time, baby, a long time.”
