DID YOU KNOW

SOME DOGS HAVE FUR & SOME HAVE HAIR? WE DID.

FUR

Fur is way shorter than hair but is denser. Its growth cycle is much faster, and it sheds significantly more than hair. That contributes to larger concentrations of dander. The dog breeds that have fur feature two layers – an undercoat and a topcoat.

SOME PUPULAR SHEDDERS | Australian Shepherd, Beagle, Bernese Mountain Dog, Border Collie, Chihuahua, Chow Chow, Collie, Dalmatian, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Newfoundland, Old English Sheepdog, Pomeranian, Pug, Samoyed, Sheltie, Shiba Inu, Siberian Husky, Welsh Corgi + many, many Mutts!

HAIR

Typically, hair is longer, thicker and smoother than fur. It grows less densely. Hair can be curly, wavy, or straight. The curly hair is the type that usually ends up trapping dander that can trigger an allergy. The dog breeds that have hair feature only one single layer. According to the American Kennel Club, thirty-six dog breeds have hair instead of fur.

SOME HAIR COATS YOU MIGHT KNOW | Affenpinscher, Coton de Tulear, Schnauzer, Basenji, Lhasa Apso, Shih Tzu, Greyhound, Maltese, Silky Terrier, Bichon Frise, Havanese, Wheaten Terrier, Brussels Griffon, Welsh Terrier + of course all the Poodle mixes from the Cavapoo to the Bernadoodle.
